Award-winning comedian and writer Demetri Martin is set to bring his unique brand of standup comedy to the Moore Theatre in Seattle on November 11, where his performance will be filmed for an upcoming standup special. Martin’s performance is the last stop of The Joke Machine Tour.
Known for his unconventional approach to comedy, Martin incorporates musical instruments, video, and props including jumbo sketch-pad drawings into his jokes, pushing the boundaries of what standup can be. He has released three stand-up comedy albums and four hour-long stand-up comedy specials, in addition to his appearances on the Comedy Central television shows “The Daily Show” and “Important Things with Demetri Martin.”
Martin’s standup comedy has earned him numerous accolades, including a Perrier Award at the International Fringe Festival in Edinburgh for his comedy show “If I,” as well as a Barry Award for his comedy show “Dr. Earnest Parrot Presents Demetri Martin.” He is also a New York Times Bestselling author and has written for “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” His fiction has appeared in “The New Yorker,” “Esquire,” and “The New York Times Magazine.”
The upcoming performance at the Moore Theatre promises to be an unforgettable evening of laughs and entertainment, with Martin’s unique blend of humor and wit. Fans were eagerly anticipating the pre-sale tickets, which were scheduled to go on sale on Wednesday. However, in a tweet, Martin announced that the pre-sale had been delayed as they were still working out seating, camera placement, and other logistics.
The following day, Martin updated his tweet to announce that pre-sales had begun, giving fans a chance to secure their seats for what is likely to be a sold-out show. General ticket sales are scheduled to begin on Friday, April 7th, at 10 am via Seated.com.
Martin’s first feature film, “Dean,” won the Founder’s Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival for Best Narrative Feature Film, showcasing his talent and versatility beyond the realm of stand-up comedy.
Seattle has earned a reputation as a prime location for comedians to film their specials. Jimmy O. Yang filmed his first-ever standup special in Seattle, while Ali Wong, who chose Seattle’s Neptune Theater as the location for her own standup special in 2016, raved about the city’s appeal in an interview with KING 5’s Jim Dever for Evening Magazine. According to Wong, Seattle has become “a big go-to location to film specials, because it’s like a Buddha’s belly that people want to rub.” With its lively comedy scene and enthusiastic audiences, it’s no wonder that Seattle has become a popular destination for comedians looking to capture their performances on film. Ali Wong has her own event coming up at McGraw Hall in Seattle on July 12.
Fans and newcomers alike can expect an unforgettable evening of laughter and entertainment from one of the most unique and talented comedians of our time. Don’t miss out on the chance to witness Demetri Martin’s The Joke Machine Tour in person at the Moore Theatre this November.
