Renowned percussionist Pete Escovedo will soon take the stage at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley on July 25th and 26th. With a career spanning over 50 years, Escovedo is a well-known name in the music industry, known for his live performances, impeccable session work, and remarkable solo albums.

Born and raised in California, Pete’s love for music blossomed at a young age. As a boy, he would sit on the steps of nightclubs, enthralled by the melodies that filled the air. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for art as well. Drawing and painting on anything he could find, Pete soon realized that his love for music and art would intertwine and shape his life forever.

Throughout his illustrious career, Escovedo has released numerous albums and has performed and toured with respected artists such as Tito Puente, Bobby McFerrin, Boz Scaggs, and Anita Baker, just to name a few. Alongside his brother Coke, Escovedo founded the groundbreaking band Azteca, while also making significant contributions as an early member of Santana. The album titled Now and Forever from the E Family is a collaborative effort that brings together various members of the Escovedo family, along with other talented musicians.

If you aren’t familiar with the Escovedo name, you might be familiar with his daughter, Sheila E., whose own career is illustrious in its own right. Sheila E. has achieved remarkable success, including the Billboard top 10 hit “The Glamorous Life” and collaborations with iconic artists such as Michael Jackson, Prince, and Beyoncé, among many others. As early as age three, she watched, listened, and learned from her father. Sheila is credited as a performer on several of Escovedo’s albums and has played live with him on many occasions. Together Escovedo and Sheila E. even played on the South Lawn at the White House in 2009.

Escovedo and his Latin jazz orchestra have continuously pushed boundaries, creating unforgettable live performances. With an innate ability to assemble talented and renowned musicians, their shows transcend age, background, and nationality, drawing music enthusiasts from all walks of life.
