Heading to north of the border, power-pop band, The Get Arounds, from Vancouver, BC, recently dropped their new album, I Wanna Live. This band blends high-energy tunes that channel the spirit of bands like The Dead Boys and Nikki and the Corvettes, with catchy power-pop choruses. Adding their own twist, they infuse the songs with a ’90s punk attitude. It’s a pretty good mix of gritty angst and melodic hooks.

Guitarist Carman, the mastermind behind most of the songs, revealed his approach: “I like short songs that stick in your brain. Don’t bore us, get to the chorus type stuff.” He admitted that lyrics usually come last for him, focusing on the feel and sound of the music instead. Carman draws inspiration from a variety of artists, including Ace Frehley, Sex Pistols, Steve Earle, and Blondie, giving their sound a diverse and dynamic edge.

The band consists of Lana Ryma on vocals, Carman Lethbridge on guitar, Paul Albert on bass, and Eric Lowe on drums. The Get Arounds came together during the lockdown when Carman and Lana were stuck at home, using their time to write songs and record demos. Surprisingly, Lana, a seasoned drummer and venue owner, discovered her singing ability and took the lead. The band rounded out their lineup with the addition of Paul Albert and Eric Lowe.

I Wanna Live is The Get Arounds’ debut full-length album, featuring 14 songs mostly penned by Carman. They worked with producers Rene D La Muerte and Jason Solyom, who captured the band’s high-energy rock and roll vibe. The album strikes a balance between the familiar and the new.

I Wanna Live is available now directly from The Get Arounds’ Bandcamp page https://thegetaroundsarenumber1.bandcamp.com/album/i-wanna-live.

Perhaps The Get Arounds will make it down to our neck of the woods sometime soon and play Seattle. In the meantime, check out I Wanna Live.
